Asset Guidelines
Design requirements for brand assets
“Brand assets” include the app image that contains the heading. Such an image is the first and foremost visual tool for attracting users browsing on a PFDM platform. To make a lasting impression on mobile app users and VR headset wearers, brand assets need to be presented in a clean, intuitive and readable manner.
Make sure your brand assets meet all of the following requirements:
1. Placing the main focus (e.g. the heading) in the safe area
The app store has “safe area” and “bleed area” restrictions. Make sure the important parts of your brand assets will not be cut off on all surfaces or devices. See the “Safe Area” section for more details.
2. Clear and readable on all surfaces
The surfaces mentioned here include Web, VR and mobile apps. You need to ensure that the users browsing through your brand assets can easily identify the heading of the experience you offer. In other words, the heading should be presented in a conspicuous size and style.
3. In stark contrast with the background
Find the right color and font to ensure a certain level of contrast. Do not let your heading blend into the background.
4. Consistent
Keep your brand assets consistent, to ensure that users can identify the experience you offer on all surfaces.
5. Scalable
Your brand assets will be presented in different sizes on different surfaces to users. Keep the scaling in mind when designing the visual elements of these assets.
The following designs will be rejected:
Private label logos are banned.
The app heading is missing.
The heading is inconspicuous.
Below are some outstanding examples of brand assets:
Colorful, expressive, clear and readable in any size.
The key information is in the safe area, posing a start contrast to the background.
Note: Your brand assets will be resized and surrounded by many other apps in our store. To attract users to the experience you offer, it is critical to keep these assets consistently similar and easily identifiable.
A specific brand asset may be resized and repositioned on different surfaces.
Specifications for brand assets
Brand assets help users identify your products across PFDM platforms on all surfaces. The platforms require brand assets to be consistently similar and clearly presented for maximum effect. Below are the aspect ratio, resolution and format requirements for brand assets:
Brand asset | Aspect ratio | Resolution (width × height) | Format | Maximum file size |
---|---|---|---|---|
App cover | 1:1 | 512×512 pixels | 32 bit PNG | 500KB |
App cover | 16:9 | 1920×1080 pixels | 32 bit PNG | 2MB |
Trailer poster | 16:9 | 1920×1080 pixels | 32 bit PNG | 2MB |
Trailer | 16:9 | 1920×1080 pixels and above | MP4 | 100MB |
App screenshot | 16:9 | 1920×1080 pixels | 32 bit PNG | 2MB |
Safe area
Brand assets across PFDM platforms appear in different ways on different surfaces. Whether on the VR app’s product detail page or in the mobile app’s category section, we always hope your brand assets look great.
All the main focuses (e.g. headings) must be placed in the safe area of the template. All versions must be consistent with each other.
Express your visual creativity within the boundaries of the safe area.
The heading may be cut off on certain surfaces.
App cover
App covers come in two types: rectangular and square. They are the most-viewed marketing content in our store. App covers may be displayed in different sizes on Web and mobile apps, VR headsets, etc.
Here are the requirements:
Your brand assets must be consistently similar.
The images must be square-edge (not angled or round-edge).
The images must be solidly filled without any transparent area.
Do not “self-tag” your brand assets to reflect your sales results, company logo, awards or other information.
Keep your design consistent. The same elements may be used in similar areas of different images.
Content update
An important task of content release is follow-up. Many developers decide to add features or content to keep users engaged. Major content updates (e.g. adding the multiplayer game mode) and the availability of add-on content (AOC) would make your souped-up brand assets more appealing to users. If you need to update your brand assets, we suggest that you submit a new set of images, starting with the basics or redesigning the cover.
Here are the requirements:
Do not “self-tag” your brand assets to reflect your sales results, company logo, awards or other information.
The app heading must remain the largest element of your brand assets.
Medals, tags, and text other than the heading are banned.
App screenshot
Screenshots help you present the experience you offer and lure users to purchase your game. Each image should represent a unique scene and highlight the best part of the experience.
While taking a screenshot, make sure it has a clear focus.
Here are the requirements:
Aspect ratio: 16:9; resolution: 1920×1080 pixels
At least 5 PNG/JPG images
Clear, sharp screenshots
All screenshots must reflect the actual experience.
No banner, logo, heading or marketing text
Using brand assets as screenshots is forbidden.
Trailer
A trailer is a 2D representation of the experience you offer. Make sure you provide the best highlights to attract downloads.
It may be very difficult to convey an immersive VR experience on video. However, the trailer plays an important part in shaping users’ understanding of the content and breadth of your offerings. Consider using traditional shots, mixed reality, and first-person point-of-view shots all at once in your trailer.
Here are the requirements:
Format: MP4
Resolution: 1920×1080 pixels and above
Maximum file size: 100MB
Graphics and gameplay must represent the experience you offer.
Your logo may be used at the beginning/end of your trailer, but no other point.
Any piece of hardware shown in the trailer must be identical to the one used by the PFDM Platform where your experience is offered.
Only PFDM devices, controllers and hardware are allowed.
Logos from other platforms are banned.
Trailer poster
A trailer poster is the thumbnail that users see before they play the trailer. Some developers use trailer posters to promote the most visually descriptive frames of the videos. Others use their Cover Landscape assets to reinforce brand consistency. The choice is yours.
Here are the requirements:
PNG/JPG images
Aspect ratio: 16:9; resolution: 1920×1080 pixels
Third-party marketing logos are banned.
